Wasei Eigo = English that was made in Japan.  Okay, maybe the original words from which they derived were immigrants, but those words gave birth to new creations having very little resemblance to their English parents.

Sound out these Katakana words and it will almost sound like you are speaking English.  However, their usage and meaning in Japan may not be quite what you would expect.

Step 1: Download the PDF below.

Step 2: Check out the list of 40 words.  What do the words sound like when you read them out loud?  Tsumari, what English words do they derive from?

Step 3: What would you expect them to mean?

Step 4: Do you know what any of them really does mean to a Japanese person?  The attached video will help you with some of them.  Any others that you can't figure out could probably be found using an online resource like jisho.org.
